Joseph Cabella - Lost At Sea

Joseph Cabella born Jan 9 or 10th, 1841 in Genoa, Italy is my Great (x2) Grandfather.  I learned that he was a Ship Captain and that he was lost at sea possibly in the Red Sea.  Most of that information turned out to be correct, except that his ship was not in the Red Sea but on its way to Italy.  I have however found that his ship's manifest did indicate that it might sail into the Red Sea.  A few years ago I found the newspaper story from the Liverpool Mercury announcing that the ship was lost.

What's In A Name

My youngest brother was given the family name of Cabella as his middle name, as was our father and grandfather.  My sister has subsequently chosen to give you her daughter this name and continue the family tradition. We inherit the name from our Great Grandfather, Joseph Cabella (1841 to 1874).   I had learned that he was a ship's captain and that his ship sunk in the Red Sea.  With that little information, I have set out to find more about the Cabella family from Genoa, Italy.  Here's a look into all that I am learning about this family and their legacy.
